Thomas
W. Leffert, President and
founding shareholder of LJP, is a registered patent
attorney practicing in the technology areas of semiconductor
architecture and processing, electronic circuits and
systems, industrial control systems and software, networking
systems and software, medical device electronics and
chemical compositions and processing, along with related
client counseling, licensing and opinion matters.
Prior to LJP, Tom practiced at Minneapolis-based intellectual
property law firm Schwegman, Lundberg, Woessner &
Kluth, where he focused on patent preparation and prosecution,
as well as related client counseling matters. He has
also practiced at Minneapolis-based Friederichs Law
Firm, where he focused primarily on intellectual property
litigation. Tom has also served as vice president and
general counsel at Empak Inc., a Colorado Springs-based
supplier to the semiconductor and rotating memory disk
industries.
Tom is licensed by the State of Minnesota as a Professional
Engineer in both chemical and electrical engineering.
He earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering
from Iowa State University. He earned a second undergraduate
degree, in electrical engineering, through the 3M Engineering
Academic Program. He received his law degree from William
Mitchell College of Law, where he served as editor of
the William Mitchell Law Review. Tom also represented
William Mitchell College of Law in the 1993 Giles Sutherland
Rich Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition.
Tom is admitted to practice law in Minnesota and Colorado,
and is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association,
the American Intellectual Property Law Association,
the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association,
and the Hennepin County Bar Association.
